Grounds Maintenance Laborer

Reports To: 

Crew Lead

Position Overview: 

Dalton’s Lawn & Landscaping is seeking a dedicated Grounds Maintenance Laborer to join our dynamic team. This role is pivotal in delivering the high-quality lawn care services our clients expect through the growing season and engaging in property maintenance and landscaping jobs during the off-season. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with commercial lawn care equipment, a strong work ethic, and a drive for excellence. 

Key Responsibilities and Duties: 

  • Aid in the loading and unloading of trucks and trailers in the AM and PM
  • Operate commercial mowing, trimming, and blowing equipment under the guidance of the crew lead
  • Perform a variety of property maintenance and landscaping tasks in the early spring and fall
  • Provide snow removal services as needed during the winter months
  • Ensure all equipment is properly maintained and report any issues to the crew lead promptly 
  • Assist crew lead in other work-related duties including shop and yard maintenance, and vehicle/equipment maintenance 
  • Emphasize a customer and quality focus, maintaining the high standards of Dalton’s Lawn & Landscaping 
  • Demonstrate effective communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Showcase teamwork and excellent problem-solving abilities
  • Uphold ethics, integrity, responsibility, and dependability in all tasks
  • Wear appropriate personal protective equipment at all times
  • Adhere to all health and safety regulations and company policies
 

Requirements: 

  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
  • Experience in commercial lawn care or landscaping preferred
  • Ability to operate lawn care equipment safely and efficiently 
  • Physical stamina for various weather conditions and ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs.
  • Strong attention to detail, time management skills, and commitment to quality
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team
  • Knowledge of specific materials methods, tools, and equipment for landscape/construction practices
  • Effective communication skills- must be able to carry out verbal instructions, read labels and signs, report progress to foreman

Work Conditions: 

  • Use of hand tools, power tools, and small engine equipment
  • Work in.a fast-paced environment with exposure to heat, humidity, rain, dust, noise, and cold
  • Work nearby heavy equipment and other vehicles on a regular basis
  • Flexible working hours, including occasional weekend work
 

Employment Type:

Full-Time, Seasonal (April through October, with additional duties in early spring, fall, and as needed in winter). This position typically averages 40 hours per week, with regular opportunities for overtime. During the growing season, working hours of 40-50 hours per week are not uncommon to meet increased workload.

Compensation: 

The baseline pay for a Grounds Maintenance Laborer is $18/hour, with the possibility for exceptionally skilled or experienced candidates to start at up to $20/hour, particularly for those whose capabilities align more closely with a “crew lead” position.

General Laborer (Landscape Construction)

Crew Foreman

Summary:

Dalton’s Lawn & Landscaping is seeking a General Landscape Laborer to join or dedicated team. This position is integral to the successful completion of our landscape projects, requiring a variety of physical tasks, tool and equipment operation, and teamwork. Reporting directly to the Crew Foreman, this role supports our mission to deliver quality and customer-focused landscape solutions.

Job Duties:

  • Assist in the loading and unloading of trucks and trailers with materials, tools, and equipment
  • Transport materials using shovels, wheelbarrows, carts, dollies, and by hand
  • Operate a variety of tools and equipment, including digging, trenching, clearing land, planting, and maintaining garden beds and lawns
  • Prepare job sites, ensuring all necessary tools and materials are available 
  • Perform regular preventative maintenance on tools and equipment
  • Comply with all company policies, local health and safety laws and regulations
 

Requirements:

  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
  • At least one year of experience in the landscape or construction industry
  • Ability to operate required equipment and tools in a safe and responsible manner
  • Physical stamina for various weather conditions and ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs.
  • Strong attention to detail, time management skills, and commitment to quality
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team
  • Knowledge of specific materials, methods, tools, and equipment for landscape/construction practices

Candidates with exceptional skills and experience may qualify for a starting wage as high as $20/hour during the initial 90-day ‘probation’ period. Following this period, and based on performance reviews, there is potential for compensation to increase to a maximum of $25/hour for those demonstrating high levels of skill and experience, aligning with the expectations for a “skilled labor” postion.
